Pollution Signatories highly believe that the ash produced from the disposal of rubbish into incinerators must be caught, kept and be privately stored so that the pristine environment of Antarctica is not harmed by pollutants produced by irresponsible rubbish disposal. If this rule is disobeyed the people involved will be sent back to their state of origin and be investigated by the International Court of Justice. ![]() Mining Signatories absolutely agree that mining in Antarctica should be banned as drilling for oil may cause harm or death for the marine life. A drilling accident could cause fire and blow-out; this would be unhealthy for the environment. If mining does occur not only will the country will be taken off the treaty but they will face a whopping fine between 1-2 million dollars. ![]() Animals Signatories obviously agree that there should be no flash photography, touching or feeding when it comes to animals in Antarctica. If any tourist/scientist break this policy there will be serious consequences such as paying a penalty of $700 if this rule is broken by the same person they will pay double the amount.
![]() Tourism Signatories personally believe that Antarctica should definitely be monitored when tourist travel to the icy continent. If they bring germs or bacteria, this will damage the flora and fauna. If this happens, the country that the tourist came from will face a staggering fine at 2.5 million dollars.
![]() Permanent Settlement Signatories certainly think that permanent settlement should not permit as no one owns this icy wonderland. With research basses expanding more people are staying at research basses with expeditioners. This would mean more rubbish is being produced. As no one owns the land there should not be any permanent settlement. If this policy is not followed the person/family will not be allowed to Antarctica ever again.
![]() Waste disposal Signatories definitely believe that whatever waste that is brought into Antarctica should be returned to the country that the tourist came from. If any country on the treaty does not follow this law, they will be removed from the Antarctic Treaty.
![]() Scientific Research Signatories totally agree that, scientific research is to be shared among the different countries according to the Antarctic Treaty. If there is no communication between the research basses it would be a waste of time, material etc. If this law is disobeyed there will be a serious consequence such as scientist will be sent back to their country and will not be allowed to Antarctica for 3 years.
