Pollution

All 47 members of the Antarctic Treaty certainly agree that rubbish from tourists and member nations should be incinerated, however, the incinerator must have something over it so that there is no high risk of the ash drifting into Antarctica’s atmosphere. Aircrafts cannot fly over penguin rookeries so that the penguins do not become stressed with the noise. Also, aircrafts must be a minimum of 95,000 feet above Antarctica. Anyone who breaks this rule will be carefully investigated by the International Court of Justice.

Mining

All 47 members of the Antarctic Treaty personally agree that the 50 year mining ban should be lifted for a maximum of 5 years before being banned again (for another 30 years). Only 30 miners per 2 member nations are allowed to mine in this blue continent, however, they are only allowed to mine in a certain area for a limited amount of time. If this rule is broken, the member nation/s who broke it will have their membership taken off of them for a period of time that will be determined by the International Court of Justice.

Animals

All 47 members of the Antarctic Treaty absolutely agree that feeding and touching of the Antarctic animals is strictly prohibited. Tourists need to keep a certain distance away from the animals so that they are not tempted to feed and touch the animals. Scientists are not allowed to take an animal unless they have a permit. If a tourist is caught poaching, they will be sent home immediately and if any scientist is caught capturing an animal without a permit will be suspended from their job, however, if the scientist has a permit, it will be taken off them for a period of time that is to be determined by the International Court of Justice.

Tourism

All 47 members of the Antarctic Treaty certainly agree that tourism in Antarctica should be strictly monitored, because, it’s a fact that tourists will harm the animals and the environment. Tourists must wash their clothes, shoes and all of the belongings they take with them so that there is no high risk of their organisms destroying this last frontier. If this rule is broken, the tourist that broke it will have to pay a substantial fine.

Permanent Settlement

All 47 members of the Antarctic Treaty are positive that there is to be no permanent inhabitants in Antarctica due to all of the buildings and renovations that would have to occur. It is  true to say that living in this unique and amazing continent would put your life at risk because of the subzero weather conditions. When working in Antarctica, you can only work for a maximum of 6 ½ months. Tourists are only allowed to stay for a maximum of 1 month; however, they must have a permit from their government. If you visit this remarkable place without a permit, you will be sent home immediately. If a scientist/worker exceeds the months they can work, they will be suspended from their job followed by paying a substantial fine.

Waste Disposal

All 47 members of the Antarctic Treaty definitely agree that the waste tourists and nations bring into Antarctica must be taken back with them. Tourists and nation cannot leave their rubbish in this deep freezer because it will never disintegrate. If their rubbish is burnable, it must be burnt and the ash must be taken back to the country of origin. Shower water and sewage must be thoroughly treated before being pumped into the Antarctic Ocean. The consequence for breaking this rule is that the tourist and/or nation that broke it will be banned from Antarctica for a reasonable amount of time.

 Scientific Research

All 47 members of the Antarctic Treaty totally agree that all scientists should share their work amongst other scientists in Antarctica, preferably scientist/scientists close to their base. Scientists would waste their time and resources researching something that already has been researched. Scientists need to communicate with each other so that they know what has already been researched and what hasn’t been researched. As a result, they won’t be wasting their time. If any scientist disobeys this rule, they will be suspended from their job followed by a 13 month ban from Antarctica.
